My mother, Gini Leyva.
My last post was just before the new year began and it certainly has begun. 2014 is barely 2 weeks in and it's been an emotional rollercoaster. It's been days of news, both good and bad.

Let's begin with the bad. On January, 6th, my mother, Gini Leyva, passed away. Her health had been getting progressively worse as the cirrhosis of her liver took hold. She and my father had gone to Denver to have consultations about the possibility of a liver transplant, but she was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia.

I was able to go out there to Denver, while she was recovering from the pneumonia. She was unconscious for the time I was there since her breathing and kidney functions were all being performed by machines.

I miss my mother and never got the chance to tell her the good news I've received.

One, I can't talk about yet because it's not quite official, but the other is that one of my short plays is being performed as part of Theatre Roulette 2014 at MadLab Theatre May 8-10, 15-17, and 22-24.
A World Without Allergies, A Talk by Dr. Michael Kramer. It's one of the more outlandish plays I've written and one of the gems that came from my 31 Plays, 31 Days work. Suffice it to say, I'll be doing that again next year.

It's so hard to receive such good news at a time when the bad news is still lingering in the back of my mind. I know my mother would have celebrated, so I'm trying to celebrate. She'd probably also say, "Why did they choose that play? You have better plays. Did you send them other plays?"
